Dear September

Dear September,

I know that for most people you mark the end of summer but not here. No you see, September, Florida doesn’t like to play by the rules of the months. Here, you’re just as brutally hot as July. And you bring a whole lot of rain, sometimes tropical storms, and even hurricanes. I guess it’s okay though because December, January and February are all really sweet and make up for your torture. So you’re off the hook there, for now.

But what I really wanted to talk to you about, September, is the other stuff. The whole “summer is over and it’s back to work stuff”. Well, I’m still figuring out that whole “work” thing, and I’m spending a whole lot of time stressing about it. I think I’m even getting some forehead wrinkles. Don’t forget, September, that you are my half-birthday month too, so that means you know very well that I’m not yet 25. I’m in no shape for wrinkles at this age. So if you could bring me a little bit of good luck or good fortune, I think I might be able to forgive you for the whole weather situation.

I’m not even saying that I like August better than you. August was pretty cool for a little while, she was all “you’re done with your internship, now go have two weeks of fun and don’t worry about real life!!”. But then she was all “ok you had your fun, now toughen up because this part might hurt a little”. And she ripped it all away from me, just like that.

I guess what I’m really asking, September, is if you could have a little pity on me. I know we have had a rocky history (I’m sorry that I said I hated you when I was in High School), but could you at least try to bring some good into my life this time around? There are so many things that I can see coming together right now but they’re still just out of my reach. Maybe what I need is just a little more patience, or inspiration or something. But either way, you know what I’m trying to say. I would really appreciate any help.

Oh and September? Don’t forget, mom has a special birthday coming up that she’s trying to pretend isn’t happening (it’s one of those birthdays), so maybe be a little nicer to her too?

Love always,
